AW15: Basic style staples

Autumn is one of my favourite times of the year.
The gorgeous hues and tones that are emerging from nature are beautiful to behold and so visually inspiring.

I love the variety of pieces that you can wear and how you can style them.
I am really into textured layering at the moment and this is the perfect season to do it and these pieces will definitely be my back drop/ mood board for the coming months.

As I mentioned in previous posts.
I am really into shopping my wardrobe, so these are some of my favourite bits to throw on and hit the road. Or possibly plough precariously through the fog!

Primark grey basic jersey long line cardigan (Boohoo alternative)
Primark black chunky cleated boots (Public Desire alternative)
ASOS maroon wide brim fedora (ASOS alternative & alternative)
Matalan grey faux fur gilet (Matalan alternative)
ASOS mixed metal boyfriend watch (alternative)
Oversized Tartan Scarf as seen in my Autumn style: Tartan and plaid scarves post (eBay)

7 things I want you to know

Hey Lovers,
I am back with another post and this time I am doing something a little different. I have picked 7 things that I am in to or loving right now. Instead of doing several different posts I am combining them and giving you a snapshot of each.

I am considering making this a series, so let me know what you think.

Rooster Teeth

1. Rwby anime series. RWBY  is an American anime inspired web series which was created by the incrediably talented Monty Oum (who tragically passed away earlier this year) for Rooster Teeth Productions.
The show is essentially about team RWBY. Which consists of Ruby Rose, Weiss Schnee, Blake Belladonna and Yang Xiao Long . The story is set the fictional world of Remnant, where all four young women have have supernatural talents are training to make them better. The series follows he adventures all four women have, their trials and tribulations.

I was absolutely obsessed with this series last year and I await the third volume eagerly. I won't put any spoilers in but I will say that, I like that there is room for improvement and it was just a group of people getting together to share and create something they enjoyed. Check it out.

London Apollo Victoria Theatre

2.wicked.  I went to see this last month with  friends and had the BEST seats. We were 9 rows from the front and the view and acoustics were spot on. This was my third time seeing Wicked as I never tire of it. it is also great seeing it from different seating positions.
I got a deal on lastminute.com and DAMN they hooked me up.

3. Tyrell crisps are giving me Life! These are some of my fav crisps and I was sent three packs after tweeting them about a bag full of air I had bought. literally there was a half a third of a bag! Happily they were right on it. Worked quickly and efficiently and hooked me up as an apology - very nice!

Victoria Aveyard

4. Red Queen, I really enjoyed reading this and felt the female character wasn't the usual slightly wet young female antagonist. There is still room for improvement but as this is the first in the series I look forward to seeing what will be done with these characters. I am pretty new to the Young adult books, so I am dipping my toe in. I didn't read them much as a teenager, as they just did not interest me at all but there is some really excellent stuff out there if you look. The next book isn't scheduled to come out until 2016 I believe so I have a long wait ahead of me! WAAAH.

Matalan initial mug

5. New initials mug. A staple of every blogger. My friend dropped my fav  initial cup and all that remains is the handle (mystery solved ). I found this simple and cute one in Matalan, which you will have seen in my homeware haul for a steal of £2.

Freshly peeled Pomelo

6. Pomelo, hailed a citrus super fruit. The grandfather of the grapefruit is frankly too sexy for words! I have been devouring these like there is no tomorrow for the last few months. There in abundance between January and April and can be found in your local middle eastern or oriental shop. I usually cut them up and freeze them in little bags so I have a supply for a while. Do try smaller green grocers  too if your in London. I would also suggest staying away from super markets as some of their prices are extortionate!!
Peeling them can be time consuming as you have to remove the outer membrane of each segment before eating it but so WORTH it!
They are amazing by themselves and are equally tasty in salads, with seafood and meats (think north Africa or Asian style) as well as goats cheese. So get experimental, I have.

A small selection taken from our group chat

7. Foodgawker. My friends and I spend a ridiculous amount of time sending each other pictures of food and recipes. As you can see from one session above. This doesn't just include food we are making,or made but future meals, things we will be ordering in restaurants, food porn and general Internet dream eats. Foodgawker is a "network of curated, blogger submitted photo gallery website". They showcase a range of food and drink recipes as well as photography. I love it it is not only a great site for drooling over food but for expanding your repetoire. I enjoy creating dishes as much as I enjoy eating them so this is right up my street.

These are my 7 things I wanted you to know.
until next time.......

Collective Homeware Haul SS14

Hi Lovers,

Homeware is my weakness right now!
Homeware haul vlogs, blogs, websites mmmhhh it's just making me very excited atm!

Accessories in particular are a firm fav of mine as I am mainly buying for my room.
So here are a few things I have picked up in the last few months.

Phrenology bust TK Maxx £5.99. I have always been obsessed with phrenology busts and had a poster when I was younger. I have even incorporated a custom design bust for a pitch at work! When I saw this I just had to have it! This is the medium , I wanted the bigger one but I couldn't find one that didn't have blemishes so I got this one which fits perfectly on my shelf.

I was actually,  reminded of my love for them when reading The Mesmerist by Barbara Ewing. Which I picked up a few years back in Poundland 2 for 1 sale. It's a very good read too!

Tesco tea light candle holders £1 each aka my new whiskey tumblers. I actually saw these ages ago in the clearance section but didn't get them and they had gone by the time I returned a week later. Luckily after checking their Homeware section there were a few in stock and I bagged 4.

Primark red berry and jasmine tealights £1.50. I do like a scented candle and these Berry & Jasmine candles are lovely and fragrant. I also picked up some pineapple & Ginger ones for 50p! Very exciting times as they are my fav autumn/winter primark candles.

D.I.Y tip: The Ginger and pineapple ones don't have that much of a scent when burning but smell incredibly pungent when they are not burning. So if you break them up and  leave them in draws or your closet they do give a nice fragrant and long lasting scent.

Primark home throw £4. I actually bought this months ago and I am in love with this minty teal tone. It is perfect for spring when it is still a little chilly at night. Throws are an easy way to change up the style of your space without changing your whole scheme.

Ikea SNABBVINGE cushion case £4
I originally bought this to trial in our
living room but decided to use it as an accent cushion in my room. The colour and design really work well with my spring\summer bed linens but are will equally work well all year round. I also picked up a pillow which I folded in half and inserted a old cushion pillow in the middle. I like to pile my pillows high at night and require a certain level of firmness hence using 2 different fillers. It adds a really calming and sophisticated playfulness to the overall look of my room.

Last but not least, my Matalan initial mug. That every Blogger accessory necessity! I have had a few initial mugs over the years but my fav one was broken in a very mysterious event (Twas all very lemony snickets)! I always find something good in Matalan and headed over there to see what I could find. This is smaller than I would usually go for. I prefer my mugs to be a little bigger or oversized but you can't go wrong with monochrome and at £2 it is an undeniable bargain. I do like a mug and this is a nice addition to the collection.

And that's it guys.
Have  you got the homeware bug and what are you buying?

AW14: wrap it up!

Now you might not actually be able to take your blankets to work (if only) but these are the next big thing.
Cape/blankets/wraps or shawls call them what you will are always an important autumn/winter piece!
I love over sized wraps as there is something so Amazonian warrior princess about them.

They work with everything and just elevate an outfit.
If you are a little scared of the open nature of the wrap you can easily modify they with a few stitches to create arm holes or add belt loops for a more fitted look.
It is super easy to do and takes 5 minutes.
Here are so affordable beauties to help you battle stylishly through the gusty wind that is occurring in London.

1- classic

2- Traditional

3-Ethnic

4- Old school

Are you a fan of the blanket/ wrap?

Collective fashion haulin: June 2014

Hey loves, Howya been?

I have been away for a bit ...LIFE as been happening as usual. Work is all consuming right now.
I haven't done a big haul in agggeeesss as I have been trying to money manage and not spend on random stuff as much. It has been working :-/  yeaaahh, kinda, sorta, maybe lol.

Here are some picks from my  last few shopping trips. They are all statement kind of pieces. Nice and comfortable items that I can wear during the day and go from work to play with a few adjustments.

I am still deciding on the ASOS trainers, their white ones are purty but will likely go back as they are a little small *uber sad face*. The black ones also look and feel more durable and sturdy.
I am also not sure about the red check shirt. As much as I love them, I am just not feeling the material. I actually bought this a few weeks back and was going to return it  but I only went and left it on the bus!!!!!
Anyway it is long gone and someone in my area is now swaggin it out in a checked shirt- Karma will sort them I am sure. My friend kindly repurchased this shirt for me but I think I will return it as I clearly wasn't meant to own it and I am not that fond of it.

what do you think?

Most items are still available in store and online so grab yourself a bargain.

An autumn wedding: Guest outfit

Second family wedding of the year woop!
It was my brother and beautiful wife's wedding last week Saturday, it was such a nice day and the food and drinks most definitly did  runneth over. I am still eating leftovers. Flash backs of champagne and rum still haunt me lol.

Excuse my shoes they took a beating on the dance floor lol

I kept it simple once again in a lace skater ombre dress from ASOS
My shoes were mink and bronze metallic capped flat pumps from Topshop (last year)
Aztec geo print kimono from Forever21 (last year)
Conical studded clutch bag from Matalan (last year)
Earrings from Dorothy Perkins

I think floral is definitely a wedding  event theme for me this year, check out my sisters wedding here

My nephew and I

They hired a photo booth and its safe to say my nephew spent a good amount of time posing and popping his collar. Fly boy lol. Excuse my Miley tongue moment-rum chronicles!

I went for a simple 50's bombshell look:
Hair- Pin up roll bangs
Face-  Fashionista primer (t-zone application)
Sleek be beautiful blemish balm, Sleek face contour kits,
  Japanese gel eyeliner
E.L.F highlighter
Lips- Mac Ruby Woo
Cheeks-  Mac sheertone Pinch o'peach

Once again I didn't have enough time to take as many snaps as I would have liked as I was helping my mum cook food for the evening buffet before and helping on the day. I won't put up their whole day as that is for them to decide and distribute.

But here are a few snaps.

I'm on that all black everything

Happy New Year guys! Can someone tell me why I am buying sunglasses in winter please? Because certain folks think my wardrobes are a shop to come and pick up stuff from -_- you know who you are lol but also coz they are super cheap in the winter months and I am slightly obsessed . Anyhoo I was really "good" and somewhat restrained in the sales this time around. I found myself dividing my shopping into colourful spring stuff and black basics.  It is grey and dark and frankly I have been wearing bright colours to cheer me up and flip the bird to winter, but now I am feeling black.

All clothes shown above were below £10 and sunglasses were all below £2.50!!! Bargains *dougies*. What I really wanted with these pieces is something that I could slip on shuzzzz up or down and be on my way, simple yet effective. The Midi, maxi skirt, skater and jersey dress are simple up to date twists on the classic LBD which keeps it fresh. The creepers are one of those trends that doesn't really go out of fashion but evolves in style and is a great alternative to heels. They also so add a little edge to an outfit without being try hard.

I wasn't really bothered with shopping this Christmas and New Year and didn't go out for the boxing day sales. I stayed at home snuggled up warm in my housecoat with a glass of wine and occasionally surfed the net lazily.  I could not be doing with train delays, massive crowds and jabbing people in the gut to get items that weren't even reduced enough to warrant the energy so online sales was mainly the way forward for me. I think I did very well lol.

What did you buy in the sales, let a girl know about them bargains!

Until next time ...........

Matalan Haul:A/W12

Well bonjour Madame Matalan!  Matalan isn't a shop I visit very often but that will definitely change. I have been receiving a lot of their catalogues and discount cards of late so decided to stop by.  I was a little late and didn’t discover Matalan until Uni days. Even then it was one of those shops that you hit like twice a year because of its random location.

I am incredibly happy with the pieces I got and have already been complimented on several items. This is a very autumnal haul with key accents in plum, aubergine and oxblood. It was not deliberate but it seems that I am reaching for these rich colours more and more. The velvet metal capped brogues give a feminised shoe the much needed edge I love in my accessories and can be teamed with the floaty dress and blazer for a business look or with turned up jeggings and the over sized knit for a casual Friday look.
The over sized orangey coral clutch is really beautiful and the studded horses really lift the bag and add another element to any outfit. I also really loved the over sized tote in cream. You cant see very well from the image but it has a very slight hint of pinky mink blush to it which helps the rose gold studded detail to really warm up the tone of the bag.

I always get flat ballet pumps where ever I can as I love them and they are super comfortable. The quilted finish is an added extra to the patent capped look we have been seeing on the high streets. Finally Metallics are very big this season and who could resist that gorgeous wear me at Halloween or Christmas party foiled dipped hem skirt? It really reminded me of the foiled Christmas wrapping paper and I just had to have it!

To be honest I didn't go mad as I was looking for smart casual pieces that could go from day to night and not have the rigidity of office wear.  For me their range this season was either too casual or to office wear, so it was definitely quality over quantity this time around. I would definitely suggest trying things on in store if it is your first foray into the shop as I have found their sizing really weird and usually have to go a size smaller some items and bigger in others. I would highly recommend their jumpers this season as they are comfy slouchy and tailored enough to be duel party and business pieces.

Matalan have really stepped up their game over the last 10 years apparently and I can definitely say their clothes are fashionable and excellent quality. Unlike some other well know high street companies their leggings and jersey dresses don't bobble and tear upon impact with skin. Have you found any Matalan gems of late?

  Until next time.......

Pay day spring /summer fashion mood board

What better way to treat yourself  for being fierce, fabu and bossy? This is pretty much what I am feeling this month. I have already bought a few as my staples for the next couple of months. I am a little too happy that all of these are affordable and are very wearable bits and bobs.
I really love accessories and statement peices that can transform an outfit and are transferable from day tonight etc. They are also good if you are on a budget as nothing on here is above £50 and some are on sale!
I have a thing where I mix and match my clothes all year round so I will rock all my stuff together. It might be laziness but that's how I do and it also means I have a bigger style collection to work with.
The colours, textures and patterns really speak to me plus it screams a big fuck you to the rubbish weather we are having in London (apart from today randomly).

Top tip: set yourself a budget for your season must haves, after statement buys purchase accessories. Unless your a student then spend, spend, spend and then eat miso soup for a month lol
